@1UPwrangler Depending on needs your electricity could be taken care of by a couple of solar panels, a wind turbine or a water turbine on the right property. Then aside from maybe some propane for cooking or heat and the land tax you would be as close to free as possible in modern times. If you are really hardcore you could even grow your own food and catch your own water when it rains then purify it. To me that’s the American dream. Being free and not a slave to mortgages, taxes and utilities.

Good idea, but most areas I don’t think would allow this, I know for a fact my town (Keokuk, Iowa) would not allow anyone to actually live in something like this because it was built to code, or some ignorant excuse.
